How to Navigate FRC Event Preferencing for the 2024 CRESCENDO presented by Haas

It's that time of the year again!

We hope you excited and ready to embark on another thrilling season of FIRST Robotics Competition. To assist you in the event registration process, we would like to provide a comprehensive guide on how to register for your preferred events using the Event Preference System, effective as of August 2023.

 

Event Preference System Overview

Under the Event Preference System, teams will have the opportunity to select and rank their event preferences during designated registration periods. It’s important to note that there is no advantage or disadvantage to submitting your preferences early or late during the open week, as long as they are submitted by the deadline.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • You can change your preferences as often as you wish before the deadline without any penalty.
  • You will only be assigned or waitlisted for events you list in your preferences.
  • Teams are randomly assigned a lottery number that determines the order of event assignment.
  • If you can only attend one specific event, you should preference only that event, guaranteeing you at least a waitlist spot.

Event Registration Process

To register for events, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on the “Log In” button located in the top right corner of the FIRST website (www.firstinspires.org).
  2. Log in to your account.
  3. Your team(s) will be displayed on the Dashboard under “My Teams.”
  4. Complete any “Outstanding Team Tasks” displayed in RED.
  5. Click on or select a team to expand for more information.
  6. In the far-right column under “Team Events,” click on the “Event Options” drop-down menu and select “View Team Events.”

At this point, the Events screen will open, and you can proceed with event preference selection. The available events will be displayed based on your team’s criteria.

Selecting Event Preferences

Once you’ve reached the Events screen, follow these steps to select your preferences:

  1. Find the event you’re searching for in the list, then click on the blue arrow on the far right.
  2. An Event Details pop-up will appear. Verify that this is the correct event.
  3. If it’s the correct event, click the “Add Preference” button. If not, click “Cancel.”

Your first event preference will default to “Allow Waitlist.” You can preference as many events as you’d like and change the preference level by adjusting the drop-down menu or by dragging and dropping events to set the order you prefer.

You can also change the Waitlist Preference selection on any of your events using the drop-down menu. Remember that you will always show ‘Allow Waitlist’ for one event, and the system will not allow you to select ‘Do Not Waitlist’ for all events.

Feel free to return at any time while preferences are open to make changes to your preference selections.
