As we enter the competition season, we wanted to share a note on the Software Inspections, especially in light of the announced 8.1.1 update.
There have been several reported issues with the recent 8.1 update to the FTC SDK (Software Development Kit), so we would strongly advise that veteran teams with pre-2022 Control Hubs, and 2022 Rookie teams that do not need to use the gyro should continue with the SDK/APP Version 8.0.
If an upgrade from prior season software is required, and the team is using the REV hardware Client, the user can select the specific App version they want to install on their devices, and so they should choose 8.0.
Nothing higher than 8.0 will be “required” for the 2022-23 season, so inspectors will only be requiring 8.0.
The minimum FTC software version Requirements are updated each year, to reflect updates in the SDK and robot Hardware. Please see section 7.3.5 of the FTC Game Manual Part 1 for the most up to date requirements.
If inspectors come across app version miss-match issues, where the RC app is 8.0 and the Driver Station is newer (say 8.1), the DS app should be downgraded to 8.0. rather than upgrading the Control Hub. Downgrading the DS app to match the RC app is always the safest procedure, assuming the RC is at a “legal” version.
