Advisory
Committes

The FRC, FTC, and Volunteer Advisory Committees are an integral part of the FIRST Chesapeake community, dedicated to representing the needs, interests, and concerns of FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams, and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams, and Volunteers across the district. 

Our mission is to foster collaboration, provide valuable insights, and advocate for the advancement of teams, mentors, and volunteers. 

What We Do

Our primary goal is to provide guidance and recommendations to FIRST Chesapeake on matters affecting teams. We actively engage with team members, mentors, volunteers, and FIRST Chesapeake staff to address issues, drive initiatives, and enhance the overall experience. 

We encourage every member of the Chesapeake Community to review our committee charters and suggest improvements to the appropriate committees. The FTC and Volunteer Charters are currently under development.

Who We Are

Comprised of dedicated team coaches, mentors, and volunteers, the Advisory Committees serves as a liaison between FIRST Chesapeake and the community. With a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, our members are passionate about supporting and empowering teams to succeed.

How to Join

The committee membership shall be selected as follows: 

  • The Committees shall comprise no less than 6 and no more than 15 team representatives.
  • Team Advisory Committee applications will be accepted from any coach/mentor active on a current FIRST Chesapeake team.
  • Volunteer Advisory Committee applications will be accepted from any volunteer active in the FIRST Chesapeake district.
  • The selection of representatives will be reflective of the FIRST Chesapeake District demographics. Factors considered include geographic location and other characteristics such as public, private, community-based, rural, urban, size, available resources, veteran, rookie, etc. 
  • FIRST Chesapeake and existing committee representatives will select new representatives based on received applications.
    • Applications shall be accepted until September 15th. 
    • Membership invitations will be sent by September 20th. 
    • Representatives shall be active for one year with the option to continue for up to two additional years.
    • An individual cannot serve for more than three consecutive years. 
    • There are no limits on the number of applications a team may submit, however, each team will be permitted a maximum of one representative on the committee at a time.
    • Former committee representatives may reapply after one year of being off the committee.
