2026 Intern Networking Program

Career insight. Professional connection. Applied impact.

The MTI Intern Networking Program is where curiosity meets opportunity. Students engage directly with STEM professionals, explore real-world career pathways, and gain practical insight into applied science and engineering. It’s a chance to ask questions, build connections, and take the next step toward a future in STEM.

What to Expect:

This is a networking opportunity for MTI students who are attending college in the fall of 2026.   You will meet with technology businesses who offer internships to college students.  You will learn about what they do, what type of internships they offer, and about their internship application process.

Interviews will be in person at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory beginning at 4:45 pm on Friday June 26.

You will speak with representatives about your accomplishments to date and your goals for the future.  Ideally you will include how FTC has allowed you to acquire the skills that are valued in today’s workforce.  For example:

  • Team work

  • Problem solving

  • Grace under pressure

  • Communication

  • Enthusiasm for STEM

  • Resiliency when faced with failure

During the course of the interview you should speak about your robot, focusing on your specific contributions to your team and the lessons you’ve learned over the course of your FTC experience.  Ideally you will bring your robot to the interview.

This is a networking opportunity for students who are interested in internships in the summer of 2027 and beyond.  You will need to go through a formal application process in order to secure a position.

After the interview you are encouraged to remain in contact with the representatives.  Be sure to touch base and let them know how your first year of college is going.  It will be important to keep the connection current and pay attention to internship application deadlines.

What are the Advantages?

You will make connections with internship providers.  They will get to know you, what drives you and about your future goals. In turn, you will learn about the work these organizations do and what they have to offer. When you apply for an internship you will now have someone within the company who has met you and is able to provide much more information to the hiring agent about how you can contribute to the company’s success.

Who Will You Be Meeting With?

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory

The MTI intern networking program presents a unique opportunity for graduating seniors to network with representatives from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL).  JHU/APL, a longtime supporter of the MTI,  is a world-renowned institution focused on applied research directed at making contributions to solving our nation’s critical challenges.  JHU/APL hires talent across the scientific and engineering spectrum and is particularly interested in meeting students with backgrounds in software, real-time embedded systems, controls, sensors, mechanical engineering, modeling and simulation, etc - - all of which are a good match with the FTC program.

Here is a sample of the work going on in just some of the areas of the lab:

JHU/APL Space Exploration Sector

JHU/APL's Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission

JHU/APL's amazingly successful DART mission

JHU/APL's Dragonfly mission

JHU/APL Force Projection Sector

APL trains AI which Bests Human Fighter Pilot in AlphaDogfight Trial at Johns Hopkins APL

APL developed Autonomous Swarming Boats Make Great Waves at Navy and Marine Corps Exercise

Please note - United States Citizenship is required to intern with APL.
