Hello, FIRST Alumni,

I have an exciting mentorship opportunity to pass on to you. FIRST Chesapeake has a number of teams which are in need of mentors for the upcoming season. (Mentorships can be different things. Meeting via Skype or Google Hangout works for some teams while some would like to have mentors help with after school meetings during the season). If you are able to help, please contact me with your location, preference for FIRST Tech Challenge and/or FIRST Robotics Competition, and availability. I will work with the coaches to try to find the best match between mentor and team needs. Also, I will be delighted to sign off on volunteer hours if you are keeping track of those for your employer or school.

Another equally exciting announcement is that we are having FIRST Chesapeake Alumni Socials in the District of Colummbia, Maryland, and Virginia this fall, and you are invited! Here is a link to the FIRST Chesapeake Alumni Association registration form if you aren't already on our list.

Signing up as an alumni guarantees that you will receive invitations to local alumni events and at the District Championship, updates on competitions and volunteer opportunities in your area, and valuable internship and employment announcements from our sponsors.

Click here to see a listing of the 2016 fall alumni socials. Invitations will be emailed next week to all members of the Alumni Association. Feel free to email me with any questions.

Thank you for your interest and support. I look forward to seeing you at the socials in the next few weeks!

We are pleased to announce the new name for our warehouse facility and the winner of our warehouse naming contest!  Although people liked both of the choices in the finals, the one with the most votes was “Command Central.”

Christy Hodge submitted this suggestion, and will be receiving a bag of FIRST Chesapeake swag. Congratulations Christy!

FIRST Chesapeake needs a name for its headquarters/warehouse! We asked for your suggestions and received many fun, new potential names. We have been able to come up with two finalists, but we need your help to choose the winner.

The FIRST Chesapeake and VirginiaFIRST websites have now been combined!

In order to streamline and simplify the communication process, the www.firstchesapeake.org website now contains information pertaining to FIRST Robotics Competition in District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia and FIRST Tech Challenge information for Virginia.  We have worked to combine all aspects of the former websites into this new version.  However, if you want to just see information pertaining to FRC or FTC, there are quick links located at the top right of the webpage that when selected will take you directly to specific program information.  In addition, we are introducing the FIRST Family Blog (located under the News section of the site) that serves as a resource for news and information to teams and the community.  Check it often for updates.  At this time, the firstchesapeake.org website will be accessed even if the virginiafirst.org address is used.

Members of the FIRST Community in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia,

Congratulations to all of our teams, volunteers, sponsors, and staff on a successful 2016 season … our first season operating the District Competition model. Bringing together 3 FIRST regions to form the FIRST Chesapeake District and changing from 3 regional events to 7 district events and a district championship all while continuing to increase the number of teams, participants and volunteers was a tremendous accomplishment.
