This is a reminder, that the FIRST Chesapeake Consent & Release form needs to be completed by Coaches / mentors / students / volunteers. This form is different and separate from the Consent & Release form required upon registration with FIRST. (Although closely aligned, FIRST Chesapeake and FIRST (firstinspires.org) are not the same organization)

Everyone only needs to fill out the form ONCE per season- before their initial event. If a person volunteers for both FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and FIRST Robotic Competition (FRC) events, or if a student is on both an FTC and FRC team, this still applies- once per season, before their initial event.

Here are some helpful points:

  • The FIRST Chesapeake Consent & Release form is available in an easy online format. We encourage you to fill the form out online, prior to the event
  • Coaches- make sure your students know your email address! There is a required section on the online form for your email, so you will automatically receive confirmation of that student's submission.
  • If a student says that they completed the form, but the coach did not receive a confirmation, ask the student to forward their own confirmation email to the coach.
  • Paper copies are available to download and print, but a parent/guardian's signature is required.
  • A parent/guardian signature is not required if the participant is 18 years of age or older.
  • Coaches should bring a list of their students who have completed the online consent form to team check-in, or printouts of the confirmations.

For more information see our prior blog post or the Consent & release Form page.

We hope this clears up any confusion.

The FIRST Tech Challenge season is rolling right along, but we still need YOU to volunteer for one of the upcoming events! Whether your skills are technical or not, or even a bit rusty, we can use your help.

We will gladly sign school, club, or scout service hours paperwork for you!

Did you know?

  • A qualifying tournament in the FIRST Robotics Competition or the FIRST Tech Challenge can require up to 100 volunteers each day. The Championships need more than 120 volunteers, both technical and non-technical, per day.

To register, go to directly to http://firstinspires.org/volunteer and click "Sign Up" in the upper right corner.
