Members of the FIRST Community in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, 

Congratulations to all of our teams, volunteers, sponsors, and staff on a successful 2016 season … our first season operating the District Competition model. Bringing together 3 FIRST regions to form the FIRST Chesapeake District and changing from 3 regional events to 7 district events and a district championship all while continuing to increase the number of teams, participants and volunteers was a tremendous accomplishment.

To deliver to the district model we have already made significant improvements to our capabilities to support teams, train and coordinate volunteers, raise funding and support sponsors, manage event logistics and competitions, and operate the district. 

Today, I’d like to ask your help as we take additional steps to improve our Board of Directors capabilities and skills. 

We are looking for nominations from our FIRST Community for potential new Board Members. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with the some or all of the following skills and backgrounds for our Board: 

  • Alumni of FIRST programs or parents of FIRST participants
  • Mentors and/or educators directly with FIRST district events
  • Business or community leaders with a passion for FIRST’s vision and mission
  • Education systems leaders in the District of Columba, Maryland, or Virginia
  • Assist in fundraising significant contributions to FIRST Chesapeake operations
  • Generally, we are seeking additional representation from Maryland and the District of Columbia
