Compensation

Salary range is expected to be $60k - $65k, based upon experience.

Benefits include 401(k) retirement option; ability to work from home.

Flexible full-time work schedule outside the competition season including 10 days (2 weeks) annual leave/sick days, paid leave December (2 weeks) and summer (4 weeks); paid holidays at the discretion of the FIRST Chesapeake board.

Requirements

Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of personalities, excellent time management skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with FIRST programs preferred but not required.

 

Duties:

  • Oversee and administer of the FIRST Chesapeake FTC and FRC programs in DC, Maryland and Virginia.
  • Direct supervisor to Logistics manager.
  • Provide direct mentor and team support.
  • Increase direct community engagement/volunteer outreach to sponsors, corporations, civic organizations, tech councils, etc to grow/ strengthen volunteer pool.
  • Approve all FIRST Chesapeake FTC and FRC team communications.
  • Work closely with Logistics Manager, Director of Volunteers, and other key stakeholders to ensure consistent quality events and timely/accurate communications. (Volunteer communications, catering, venue contracts, etc.)
  • Draft and approve team blogs; call for volunteers, team info, etc.
  • Responsible for tracking team event registration payments, grant disbursements, etc.
  • Responsible for filing timely and accurate event reports.
  • Responsible for providing/monitoring timely updates to web site (via Communications Manager)
  • Guarantee social media coverage (volunteer or staff) at all FIRST Chesapeake FTC and FIRST Chesapeake FRC events.
  • Provide excellent and gracious customer service to all FIRST staff, volunteers, teams, sponsors, and the public.

 

Specific Outcomes:

Successful execution of FIRST Chesapeake FRC and FIRST Chesapeake FTC events. This includes, but not limited to:

  • 1 FIRST Programs Expo and FTC Scrimmage at the Science Museum of Western Virginia
  • 1 FRC Workshop at VCU (not FY23)
  • 1 FTC Workshop (not FY23)
  • FRC Kick Offs in Virginia, DC and Maryland. (This is coordinated with Glen Davis)
  • 13 FTC Qualifiers - may be more depending on team registrations
  • 1 FTC Championship
  • 6 FRC District events
  • 1 FRC Championship

Timely, gracious, and personalized support to approximately 130 FIRST Chesapeake FRC and 170 FIRST Chesapeake FTC teams, coaches and mentors via email, phone conversations, in person visits.

Appropriate number of volunteers are scheduled and arrive prepared for events.

Development of a successful mentor training pilot to assist corporations/communities integrate into the team structure.

Development of a successful community/corporate engagement program to be implemented during the 2022-2023 to include:

  • Direct communications with, but not limited to, FIRST Chesapeake’s 15 major sponsors
  • Timely and personal communications with corporate/community POCs, including advance notice of local events, reminders, specific volunteer needs, assistance with VIMS system, etc.
  • Volunteer tracking system that documents number of employees from specific corporations and alumni - and their roles at each event.
  • Timely and personalize volunteer recognition and follow up.
  • Event report template completed within 2 weeks of the completion of each event.

Real time social media coverage of all FIRST Chesapeake FTC and FIRST Chesapeake FRC events.

Submit a Director of Programs operations (including a succession and cross training plan) template by May 31st, 2023.

GEARED Up Instructor

 

FIRST Chesapeake Robotics, a 20+ year-old STEM education-based non-profit, is seeking part-time contractors to work with in person with several RPS middle schools (Richmond VA) for the 2022-2023 academic year. Additionally, opportunities will be available to work remotely with middle schools in the DC area. This position requires between 4 and 8 hours of late afternoon instruction and planning per week, depending on availability. Classroom hours are 1 hour per session in late afternoon Monday-Thursday.  Additional compensation is included as part of the estimated hours for necessary planning and training. The position will report to the GEARED UP Program Manager of FIRST Chesapeake.

 

Description:

Using basic STEM concepts and following a standard lesson guide, the ideal candidate will work on site or remotely with no more than 15 RPS middle school students per school. The number of schools and sessions per week will be based on availability. Following the proven GEARED Up programs format of using the robot as a vehicle to reinforce STEM learning, the candidate will help students build and program a small working robot. Some pre-program training and weekly administrative/lesson prep will be required.

 

Timing:

Training to begin immediately, with the ideal candidate prepared to participate in the program kick-off in late September, with sessions beginning in early October. Sessions will take place for approximately 10 weeks between mid-September and mid-December, following the RPS academic calendar.

 

Compensation:

Pay $25/hr. Contractors will be compensated for training.  The opportunity to extend this position to future FIRST Chesapeake remote and/or in-person programs may be available. Payment will be received electronically on the 30th and 15th of each month. This is a 1099 contracted position.

  • Over 18 and able to pass an on-line background check
  • Responsible self-starter
  • Must provide own transportation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Access to reliable internet - hardwire connection preferred - if necessary
  • Must provide their own laptop with conferencing capabilities (camera and audio)
  • Familiarity with FIRST programs preferred but not required
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Experience working with teens/adolescents and/or under-resourced communities preferred but not required
